From a dreamy childhood in a Parisian suburb, watching the endless ballet of the aircrafts in the sky above Orly, to a perpetual nomadic life along the North American roads, traveling by bus… From her great love of the desert to her wanderings through the Lakota territories, forever engraved in her flesh… From the rugged coastline of the Atlantic where her folks hail from, to the Sierra Madre jungle in Mexico… It’s finally in Montreal that Kensico lays down her suitcases, in order to open the pages of a travel book.
Kensico is the brainchild of Montreal-based singer-songwriter Gaëlle Bellaunay whose new release represents the kismet collaboration of Bellaunay, producers & composers Daran, Mathias “Schneebi” Schneeberger (The Gutter Twins, The Afghan Whigs, Mark Lanegan, Joseph Arthur, Foo Fighters), Masters Of Reality frontman Chris Goss (Queens Of The Stone Age, Mark Lanegan, UNKLE, Desert Sessions, Foo Fighters, Soulwax, Melissa Auf Der Maur) and Alain Johannes (Mark Lanegan, Queens Of The Stone Age, PJ Harvey, Desert Session, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, Brody Dalle).
Surrounded by such a team and along with drummer Cully Symington (The Afghan Whigs, Okkervil River, The Twilight Singers, Conor Oberst), Kensico naturally settled down at the legendary Rancho de la Luna studio, a Mecca of the latter-day rock set, in order to write some more and record Kensico’s first L.P. « White Sage ».
